2016 - Adam Rugo “My father served in the United States Army during World War II. He was attached to a group called Strategic Bombing Survey. He was part of the very first American team on the ground in Hiroshima to collect scientific data on the effects of the atomic bomb. He saw things no human being ever saw before. Horrors. He photographed women and children dying in hospital from radiation sickness, the patterns of their kimonos burned into their flesh. Ever after, my father suffered from what I now believe was Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He was a rage monster. He was completely cut off from his feelings. He was occasionally violent with his family and frequently verbally abusive. To grow up in my household meant to bear a special burden from the war and the deployment of the atomic bomb.”
