After Latin School he attended night classes at what is now Northeastern University and then worked with his father for a while on construction of the Chambersburg, Pennsylvania Arsenal. Enlisted in the Army on 16 Feb. 1943, having completed a year of college. Residence was Suffolk County at that time.
1943 directory shows him in the Army, residence 321 Norfolk Avenue.
1952 and 1954 directory shows him as an engineer at Sylvania, living in Silver Spring, Maryland.
A biophysicist in Washington, DC according to Henry Rugo ca. 1980.

“PEABODY -- Alfred J. Rugo, retired sales director for GTE Sylvania , died Jan. 19. He was 84.
Born and raised in Boston, he was a graduate of Boston Latin High School. He earned an electrical engineering degree from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in business from George Washington University .
During World War II, he served in the Army.
Mr. Rugo was director of sales for the lighting division of the GTE Sylvania Corp. at its headquarters in Danvers. He worked there for 35 years before retiring.
He was a longtime member of Salem Country Club , where he golfed with the "Retreads" group. He enjoyed the honor of having eagled the signature 13th hole at Salem. He was a member of Friends of the North Shore Music Theatre for 40 years.
He was the husband of Lena A. (Aubrey) for 58 years. They lived in Topsfield for 29 years until moving to Peabody in 2006.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Rugo leaves a son, Steven A. of Chicago; three brothers, Henry of Lincoln, Robert of Arizona and Richard of California; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was said Feb. 10 at the Salem Country Club. Burial was private.”
