She was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Tabler, the oldest of six children born to James Harlan Newton and Bertie Mae Prentiss Newton. She spent her early childhood there graduating from Middleberg Schools in 1942. One night, while at a USO dance in Lexington, she met the love of her life, a young service man named Albert Leonard "Al" Feroli. They fell in love and were married on May 20, 1944, in Purcell. To this union, sons, John, Michael and David, and a daughter, Mary Louise, were born. They made their home in Purcell, and she worked as a legal secretary for Attorney Perman Wilson in Purcell. In 1967, together with Al, they opened a Montgomery Ward in Purcell and continued to operate it until 1982. Katherine was a faithful member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell. She served as past treasurer and she and Al were instrumental in the operation of the church soup kitchen, "Our Daily Bread." She was a member of the Purcell Altar Society, where she served in many capacities and offices. Katherine was also very involved with the Purcell Senior Citizens and served as past treasurer as well. She loved card games, especially bridge and skipbo; loved working crossword puzzles, traveling and playing bingo, and was an avid bowler for years. She was a loving wife and mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
