Col. Robert Joseph Ferroli, 77, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in his home after an extended illness. He was born April 23, 1930, in Boston, MA, to the late John Anthony and Lena (Lucchini) Ferroli. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, William and Richard Ferroli. He was a 1948 graduate of Boston English High School; B.S.B.A., Boston College 1952; M.B.A., Marketing, Babson College; Military Management, Command and General Staff College; U.S. Army, 34 years, various stations, and retired 1981 with rank of colonel. Served active duty in the Army from 1952-1954 and again in 1961-1962. And then with the Army National Guard and Army Reserves. Military awards: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Reserve Component Achievement Medal. He had formerly worked as the marketing manager for Cutler-Hammer in Milwaukee, WI; Stanley Works New Britain; Kinkead Industries in Chicago; and L.E. Johnson in Elkhart. He also ran his own firm, retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church in Elkhart and was a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Elkhart Knights of Columbus. Past President 1998-1999, and was a member of the Department of Indiana Reserve Officers Association. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family deeply. He will be dearly missed. On June 15, 1952, in St. Paul's Catholic Church, Boston, he married Ruby J. Porter, who survives. Also surviving are a son, John A. (Irma) Ferroli of Grand Rapids; daughters, Diane (Scott) Bles of Midland, TX, Laura Jabeck of Buffalo Grove, IL, Catherine Ferroli of South Bend and Milissa (Dave) Peffley of Granger; seven grandchildren; and sisters, Emily (Bill) Duserick of Cape Cod, MA, and Claire Krebaum of Marshall, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart, with Rev. Bill Sullivan of St. Thomas to officiate, with full military honors to be rendered at the church following the Mass. Burial will be at noon Monday, April 14, at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Mi. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m., and one-half hour before the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be directed to: Building for God's Teaching Capitol Campaign, c/o St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart, IN 46514; or to The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
