“Angela Benvenuta Miniutti, 102
SOUTH BERWICK -- Angela Benvenuta Miniutti, of Boyd's Corner Road, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Newton Center in Sanford at the age of 102.
Angela was born March 20, 1912 in Concord, N.H., one of 11 children of Angelo and Lucia Miniutti.
In 1920, the family moved to South Berwick where her father and uncles operated a Black Granite Quarry. Angela attended the Boyd's Corner Grammar School and graduated from Berwick Academy in 1928. She received a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Maine Orono in 1932 then attended the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women. During the depression she worked for the E.R.A., C.W.A., W.P.A., and the Fishermen's Relief Fund. From the mid 1930's to 1968 she worked in the Division of Family Services, State Department of Health & Welfare as a Social Worker, and later as Supervisor in the Augusta, Portland, Lewiston and Bangor offices.
After her retirement in 1968, she returned the family homestead on Boyd's Corner with her mother, sisters and brother. Before her stay at the Newton Center she made her home with her niece Judith Carll in North Waterboro.
Angela was pre-deceased by her parents; ten siblings; and a nephew James B. Miniutti. She is survived by her niece Judith Carll of North Waterboro, her nephews John Miniutti and William Miniutti, both of Florida; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 1 at 12 o'clock at Our Lady of The Angels Church, 162 Agamenticus Road, South Berwick. Spring burial will be in St. Michaels Cemetery, Rollinsford, N.H. “
