CONCORD - Pasquale Vincent "Pat" Rufo, 89, of 194 Rumford St., passed away Dec. 14, 2011, at home.
Pat was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He was born on Aug. 18, 1922, the fifth and youngest child of Antonio and Mabel (Miniutti) Rufo.
As a child, Pat worked with his brother and sister selling fruits and vegetables door-to-door to help his mother supplement the family income upon the death of his father in 1928.
Pat graduated from St. Johns High School (where he was affectionately known as "Fatty") in 1938. He attended Cushing Academy, Colby College and Dartmouth College, before joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942.
He served for four years in special weapons during World War II in the South Pacific.
Upon returning from the war, Pat, along with his sister Loretta and brother Carl (Peke), began Rufo's Greenhouse, a continuation of the business their mother began in 1928. In 1948, Rufo's Greenhouse Inc. was officially established. In 1990, it became Rufo's Greenhouse Inc. and Florist.
Pat married the former Katharine (Cappy) Louise Lanigan in September 1954. They were married 52 years when Cappy passed away in May 2007.
Mr. Rufo was instrumental in local, state and national politics, having held many elected positions. He was a four-term New Hampshire state representative from 1949 to 1959. He worked on many campaigns throughout the years and attended the National Convention.
Mr. Rufo was a life member of Concord Lodge of Elks 1210. He was a member of the American Legion Post 02010 and the VFW Post 1631 of Concord. He was past exalted ruler of Knights of Columbus.
He was a past member of the Concord Rotary, helped establish the Capital City Rotary Club of Concord. He was a recipient of the Paul Harris Award.
He was a founding member of the New Hampshire Plant Growers. He helped organize the Concord Regional Planning Board on which he served. He was also active in the FTD and Teleflora Units of New Hampshire.
He was predeceased by his wife Katharine; his sister Angelica Pomponio and her sons Emidio and Vinnie; his sister Loretta Rufo, his brothers Liberio and Carl.
He leaves his daughter Patricia A. Hiscoe and her husband George Peter; his daughter Susan Jean Snow and her husband Irv; his son Michael Anthony Rufo and his fiancée Pam Boyce; his granddaughter Spencer Katharine Snow; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

SERVICES: A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Parish at St. Peter, 135 N. State Street, Concord. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Concord. Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.”
