“Gertrude (Miniutti) Cwikla, 85, of Hartford, loving wife for 62 years of, Walter Joseph Cwikla, who died in July, died peacefully, Thursday, December 24, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in North Berwick, ME she lived in Hartford for most of her life. Prior to her retirement she was employed as Collector of Customs by the U. S. Government. Active in local and state politics, she was a long-time member of the Hartford Democratic Town Committee and was also active in the Better Business Bureau. She also served as the first female Vice-Chairman of the Metropolitan District Commission.
She is survived by her son, Walter G. 'Chick' Cwikla and his wife, JoAnn of Simsbury, two grandchildren, Dawn and Christopher, a sister, Norma Maloney of Vernon and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth 'Betty' Ciangio of Cape May, NJ. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Regina Hardimann and Viola Brown. The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Church, 66 Bolton St. Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.”
