Joseph F. Rugo III of Centerville, a senior executive of Joseph Rugo Inc. Contractors and Engineers of Boston, died at home Monday after a lengthy illness. He was 71.
Born in Boston, Mr. Rugo was raised in Milton. He attended Boston Latin School and graduated from the New York Military Academy. He was a second lieutenant in the Army during World War II.
He later graduated as a civil engineer from Villanova University.
Mr. Rugo was vice president of Joseph Rugo Inc. Contractors and Engineers of Boston, a company that worked on many projects in the Boston area and throughout Massachusetts.
President of Taunton Ford, Mr. Rugo also worked in real estate on Cape Cod during the 1980s.
Mr. Rugo was a member and former Commodore of Scituate Harbor Yacht Club, and a former Knight of Malta, named by Francis Cardinal Spellman.
Mr. Rugo is survived by his wife, Mary E. (McGrath); three sons, Joseph F. IV of Turkey, Michael P. of Stow and Thomas R. of Centerville; a daughter, Anne E. Kelly of Canton; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated today at 11 a.m. at St. Agatha Church, Milton.
Burial will be in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline.
